Longtime Professor Ken Brewer Passes Away

Dr. Ken Brewer, longtime Professor of Theology

On Monday night, May 13, Dr. Ken Brewer passed away suddenly at his home from a known health issue. We are grieving the sudden loss of Dr. Brewer, Professor of Theology, and we join our hearts in prayer for his family as they gather from around the country to celebrate his life amid their loss.

Ken’s 21-year career at SAU has touched lives and influenced thousands of people around the globe. His subtle New Jersey accent, quick wit, and incredible mind challenged and inspired students to think well about faith and life. While he traveled and conversed in circles with theologians and scholars such as Hans Kung, Richard Foster, Thomas Oden, and William Abraham, Ken ministered to the unhoused at Interfaith Jackson, led the burdened through sessions on emotional and spiritual healing, and talked with young people about understanding God’s will. Ken loved his family and was the hero to his boys, Greg and Steven. While we rejoice that he is now present with the Lord, we know he will be deeply missed by all those who knew him well.

We take comfort in the words of Jesus to his disciples from John 16:22, “So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”
