Robert McTyre, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Organizational Management, Chair, Assessment Leadership CommitteeBio
I joined Spring Arbor University in 1999, first as an adjunct writing instructor, and then, 2002 full time as a writing specialist for the Metro (East) Detroit region. In 2007 I served as interim assistant dean and then in 2008 became Director of Writing and a professor for our off-campus writing program. In addition to overseeing and teaching the undergraduate writing courses, I also teach English 103 and English 104 (Basic College Writing and Beginning College Writing). Additionally, I teach management and communication courses at the graduate level. My real passion—second only to my passion for writing and teaching—is consulting and tutoring, and generally guiding students to discovering their own unique voice as a writer. One way I do this is through the writing seminar I developed, WRE 050. Presently I am assigned to the School of Communication, Media, and Fine Arts although I also teach courses in Gainey School of Business and the English Department.
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Holy Redeemer spoken of by the Prophets of Israel and whose shed blood on the cross, and resurrection, has provided salvation for all who believe on Him. I accepted Christ as my Savior on November 10, 1976. From that time to now He claims all headship and honor in my life, and it is through Him that I move and have my being. My approach to teaching writing is inextricably linked to my faith and guidance by the Holy Spirit to operate from the standpoint of redemption and agape love. It is, then, my intention always to help students simultaneously develop their faith while also developing their writing skills. To me, they are one in the same. |
